Television New Zealand has chosen another Vislink SNG System

The Bridge Networks has supplied New Zealand’s National Broadcaster TVNZ, with their fourth Advent SNG terminal in as many years.  The new Advent 1.2m Mantis satellite flyaway system, supplied with Vislink’s 5000 series electronics satellite system is similar to those recently purchased by Kordia Satellite Services and competing broadcaster, TV3.

The Advent Mantis Flyaway Systems are designed to send high-quality video and data from anywhere in the world and are rugged enough to stand up to travelling in rough terrain. Their compact size and lightweight design ensures that they comply with IATA’s airline check-on baggage requirements, enabling Broadcasters to fly the equipment anywhere around the world, when required.

This order was one of the first to be issued to Vislink’s News and Entertainment Division; which brings together the three manufacturing divisions of Vislink: Advent Communications, Link Research and Microwave Radio Communications into one business, dedicated solely to broadcast.

For TVNZ, the Advent 1.2m Mantis antenna was coupled with Vislink’s 5000 series modular electronic subsystems.  These light and compact electronic units, which are half the size and weight of typical 19” rack-mount flight-case solutions, provide excellent system performance. 

TVNZ wasted no time getting their system into the field with TVNZ’s Live Manager for News and Current Affairs, Russell Jones, stating that “testament to the systems capability, it was deployed to Napier within days of its commissioning to cover the Napier siege, the system immediately proved itself as a valuable addition to our SNG fleet”.

TVNZ’s new Mantis system will now be based in Wellington and will enable TVNZ to providing breaking news and live links to the New Zealand public.
